Located about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of Fedje island, Holmengrå island is the site of a lighthouse dating from 1892. One of the most isolated lighthouses in Norway, the climate here is even rougher than on the main island further south. Holmengrå may well be the most remote lighthouses in Norway.
The lighthouse stands 52.4 feet (16 meters) tall and 116 feet (35.5 meters) above sea level. It became automated in 1986.
The archipelago of Fedje consists of the main island of Fedje and over a hundred surrounding islands and islets. Holmengrå lighthouse is the second lighthouse located in the Fedje group. The other is Hellisøy Lightshouse which, however, is located very close to the main island.
