Ulvesund Lighthouse: One of four lighthouses in Vågsøy
Ulvesund LIghthouse is one of the four lighthouses in Vågsøy. Vågsøy is a municipality in the county of Sogn og Fjordane, in the traditional district of Nordfjord. Ulvesund Lighthouse was built in 1870 and automated in 1985. It is located on Hjertenes in Vågsøy municipality in Ytre Nordfjord (Outer Nordfjord, just south of Stadt and ten to fifteen minutes drive northeast from Måløy, or 40 minutes drive from Kråkenes Lighthouse. A county road runs right past the lighthouse.
Ulvesund Lighthouse occupies a beautiful and sheltered location. The three buildings that make up the complex are surrounded by a large garden with fruit trees and berries. The atmosphere here is very peaceful. The views look north toward the island of Silda and Stadt. The peninsula on which Stadt lies is the dividing point between the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea.
The lighthouse was restored in the summer of 2003 and is available for hire all year round. The lighthouse café is open every Sunday during the spring and autumn, and every day during the summer season. There are cultural evenings, art exhibitions, courses and visits from artists.
- There are three rooms for rent: The Panel-room and Toromsen are perfect for a family or a small group of friends. In the former lamp house, Gamlelykta, the living rooms (also used as café), and the cellar are all guest areas. The Kitchen is not available at the lighthouse, but food can be ordered in our cafe.
- Uthuset. Uthuset is a small, charming cabin in the middle of the lighthouse station, which is recently restored.
- Maskinrommet (machine room). Right to left in lighthouse yard is the Maskinhouse (machine house), with a double room. It is charming with great views down to the new lighthouse and beyond to Silda. Shower and toilet are in the house.
